POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, and evaluation of building structures for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Working under the guidance of the Director of Structural Engineering, this position leads project execution through technical design, engineering oversight, coordination with project stakeholders, and the preparation of engineering deliverables. The Senior Structural Engineer ensures work is completed in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, company standards, and established QA/QC procedures.
The Senior Structural Engineer serves as a technical leader within the department, providing guidance, mentorship, and direction to engineers, designers, and engineering co-ops. This position is responsible for coordinating engineering activities, supporting project planning and execution, performing QA/QC reviews of engineering documents, and fostering engineering excellence, client satisfaction, and successful project outcomes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Review and evaluate projects assigned by the Director of Engineering or Discipline Manager.
Assign and oversee engineering, design, and drafting tasks for engineers, designers, and co-ops.
Mentor and develop engineers, interns, and co-ops by providing technical guidance, reviewing work, and performing quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews.
Communicate project schedule changes, resource needs, and project concerns to the Director of Engineering.
Monitor project scope, budget, schedule, and progress to ensure projects are completed within established budgets and deadlines.
Attend client, architect, contractor, and internal project meetings to represent the structural engineering discipline and provide technical guidance throughout project development and execution.
Develop conceptual structural systems and preliminary design approaches during project planning, proposal development, and early design phases.
Track project performance and proactively identify issues related to budgeted hours, scope changes, quality, or schedule.
Evaluate and respond to requests for additional services; prepare and obtain approval for change-of-service or additional-service proposals prior to performing work outside the original scope.
Review shop drawings, submittals, and requests for information (RFIs) during construction and provide construction administration services as required.
Develop and maintain positive client relationships and actively support business development efforts by identifying and pursuing opportunities for future work.
Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, company procedures, and professional engineering practices.
Maintain professional licensure and pursue continuing education to expand technical knowledge and enhance professional skills.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Structural Engineering.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Ten or more years of professional experience.
Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Proficient use of a variety of software including, but not limited to, RISA, Tekla TEDDS, RAM Elements, RAM Structural Systems, Microsoft suite products
Proficient use of drafting software including AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Possess design creativity and advanced technical knowledge.
Maintain an engineering license in at least one state.
Preferred Qualifications
Structural Engineer (S.E.) licensure.
Ability to perform site surveys nationwide
Physical, Cognitive and Mental Demands
Work is primarily performed in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. This position requires periodic travel to project sites nationwide to perform engineering surveys and field investigations. Field activities may include walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs and ladders, accessing roofs, canopies, mezzanines, and other elevated structures, and working in varying weather and construction site conditions. The position requires strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, along with the ability to interpret technical information and manage multiple priorities.
